The Story of KCB-Samen

History

Fascinated by the variety of gourds and after many years of experience, Michel Brancucci in 1992 founded the Pumpkin Club Basel( In German: Kürbis Club Basel; KCB). He wanted to make known the pumpkin  and facilitate the members the order of seed varieties, which were not available in Switzerland at this time.

The cucurbits interested Michel Brancucci more and more. He photographed , researched , collected information to pumpkins and set up an extensive database of sorts with pictures, detailed description on growth and fruit characteristics - the basis for his book. In 2000, this great and unique work was published under the name " The Big Book of pumpkin " .

While the Seed Trade enjoyied a continuous growth , the clubs activities came to an end in 2007. The seed business has been transformed into the privately run KCB-Samen.

Through its worldwide relationships and thanks to his enormous commitment Michel Brancucci could regularly offer new varieties to its customers. The range of his sortiment took on a huge scale.

In the fall of 2012 Michel Brancucci died after a long illness . The Mathis family took over the KCB - seeds to the first January 2013. Since 1990, the family grows pumpkins on their farm and has always worked very closely with Michel Brancucci and acquired a great expertise during this time. 

The Pumpkin World Michel Brancucci is deeply indebted . He has made the pumpkin known not only in Switzerland but also in Europe. Thanks to him that the pumpkin has established throughout Europe in the kitchen and also as decoration. The KCB team is keen to continue his life's work to expand the product range and to keep the quality high.

All our seeds are original seeds from well-stablished companies in the world. It is our aim to offer you high-quality seeds. For us it is important to buy seeds with quality characeristics such as varietal purity and good ngermination. We are completely independent of seed producers and growers. Our goal is to offer the most optimal varieties and qualities to our customers at a reasonable price.

Germinability

We test the germination of seeds before we sell it. If you suppose the germination of your bought seeds aren't good enough then we test again. If then our test shows that the seeds could be better, we will send you new seeds with no extra costs or your get your money back.

Know-how

We produce about 100 tons of pumpkins every year at our Company. The number of different varieties vary each year between 300 and 400. We usually test all our varieties in advance. For this reason we are not always the first one the market with new seed varieties, but we have then a lot of more experience.
